Description
Species: cf. Proceratocephala sp. [See Odontopleuridae on Wikipedia, See cf. Proceratocephala sp. on bobsfossilcollection.com]
Age: Late Ordovician (with Onnia, Calymene and Homalonotus)
Locality: Tazzarine, Morocco
Measurements: c. 3.1 cm long trilobite – c. 11 × 10 cm matrix
In the Late Ordovician of Tazzarine, there is an undescribed trilobite genus that has affinities with Proceratocephala. Specimens have been compared to Proceratocephala terribilis, a species found occurring in Scotland. The Moroccan specimens are very rare and much sought after. Although slightly disarticulated, our specimen is natural, superb and well-preserved. It has been expertly prepared to contrast with the beautifully coloured matrix.
