Description

Species: Bobasatrania mahavavica [See Bobasatrania on Wikipedia]
Age: lower Triassic
Locality: Madagascar

Measurements: c. 12.3 cm long
Weight: 0.34 kg

A fine fish with outstanding preservation of scales, fins and head details. As usual with fossils from the lower Triassic of northern Madagascar, the specimen consists of the external moulds of the left and right flanks of the fish, preserved in a calcareous concretion. The specimen is unusual in that it is naturally preserved without cracks and is unrestored. The smallest details are superb under a magnifying glass.
